Governors Island has tons of hidden historical gems, so when my friends were performing there as part of the local music festival ‘Punk Island’ in June 2016, I – of course – had to branch out to snoop around. I was not disappointed, as you’ll see in this vlog! I definitely need to return for a guided tour of Fort Jay and Castle Williams, but for a first visit I had tons of fun. If you’ve visited before, definitely let me know what you think I should check out next time.
Governors Island is a 172-acre island in the heart of New York Harbor, and part of the National Park Service. It is accessible by ferry and open to the public throughout the spring and summer, usually May through to October 31st. Along with events happening around their historic forts and batteries, the park hosts tons of other events, like concerts, art exhibits, festivals, outdoor movie nights, etc. Stop by some time for a picnic, a walking tour, gardening, and more.
